This programme has been designed to help enable participants to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to design, deliver and evaluate training and to provide a formal qualification for those involved in training and development. This programme will maximise creative and innovative training methods and participants will become more confident with different learning styles & approaches to training.

Theory of Training and Adult Learning

  • Compare and contrast concepts of training and education
  • Apply theoretical concepts to a coherent framework for training practice
  • Identify the prerequisites for effective communication in groups
  • Demonstrate an understanding of group dynamics
  • Explain key principles and methodologies which underpin adult learning of learning styles, learning outcomes, essential techniques
  • Evaluate the approaches of different adult learning theorists eg Knowles, Kolb, Friere, Brookfield, Rogers.
  • Assess the contribution of theorists such as: Dewey, Gardner, Maslow, Piaget and Skinner to the psychology of learning

  • Plan the delivery of a training session
  • Prepare appropriate training methods for each element of the training session
  • Produce exercises for use within a training session
  • Prepare any tools or visual aids for the training session eg overhead or power point slides, flipcharts etc.

 

Delivery and Assessment

  • Establish, promote and maintain a positive learning culture
  • Use a variety of relevant training strategies
  • Demonstrate effective listening and feedback skills
  • Evaluate progress on an on-going basis
  • Provider formative feedback to learners throughout the programme

Entry Requirements

Level 5 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences.

Assessment

FETAC Assessment:

Participants who wish to achieve a FETAC Component Certificate must complete four assignments (50%) and a two Skills Demonstration (50%).
